Parade, fireworks bracket season of Independence Day celebrations in Spur

Spur is preparing to mark an extended Fourth of July weekend with fireworks, hot dogs, parades and more.

The community will kick off its holiday with a third Annual 4th of July Parade on Thursday, July 4 at 10 a.m. along Burlington Avenue in downtown Spur. Organizer Janet Bridges said that the group expects to have a veteran service member to ride in the parade.

A hot dog lunch will be provided after the parade. The Dickens County–Spur Public Library will host a patriotic photo booth in Rickels Park from 9 to 11 a.m. For more information contact the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce at (806) 271-3092.

On Saturday, July 6, the Spur Volunteer Fire Department will serve up more hot dogs and hamburgers at Swenson Park, starting at 7 p.m. before the evening fireworks show. A homemade ice cream contest and a photo booth will also be part of the festivities (see details in Library Notes, page 3, this week).

Donations to help cover the cost of fireworks are appreciated. Benefit raffle tickets are also available from any fire department member, with some great prizes. The drawing will be held prior to the fireworks show.
