In the Republican primary race for Dickens County Sheriff last week, none of the contenders received a majority of the vote, so there will be a runoff May 28.
In the three-way race for county sheriff, according to county clerk Danay Carnes, candidate Jay Allen (246 votes) will face candidate Jerry Schmidt (297 votes) in a runoff May 28. Candidate Ramiro Rodriquez (96 votes) is out of the running.
There was no Democratic party candidate for sheriff.
The winner of the May 28 sheriff’s runoff will be the new Dickens County Sheriff, barring a successful challenge by a write-in candidate in the November general election. The deadline for write-in candidates to file is August 19 at 5:00 p.m.
No other Dickens County offices faced opposition in the primary. Running unopposed in Dickens County were: Dennis Wyatt, commissioner, precinct 1, and Chris Horn, commissioner, precinct 3, for the position previously held by Charlie Morris, who did not seek re-election.
