Spur’s Dollar General retail store, which has been closed since July 31 awaiting air conditioning repair, has been told by the Dollar General HVAC contractor that three new HVAC units should be arriving August 22, according to Becky Vargas with the Spur store.
According to Vargas, the corporate Dollar General offices handle all of the transactions with the HVAC contractor, and the date for the delivery of the new HVAC units has been delayed three times by the HVAC contractor.
But on Tuesday, she was told that the new delivery date is Friday, Aug. 22.
Dollar General is continuing to receive deliveries of stock from the corporate offices while it remains closed.
Dollar General corporate, which in March 2025 announced permanent closure of 96 stores nationwide, has not released any further news of closures nationwide. However, there is anecdotal evidence of temporary store closures or reduced hours in some locations due to air-conditioning-related
to Facebook posts from July and August 2025.
While Spur and its surrounding areas are well served by other specialty retailers in hardware, auto parts, and alcoholic beverages, and Spur has long depended on its Lawrence Brothers IGA grocery store, there is no other large general store closer than Crosbyton, Matador or Aspermont to serve the Dickens County market.
