Spur ISD extends superintendent’s contract through June 2028 in Jan. meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board of trustees Jan. 27, 2025, Superintendent Craig Hamilton presented the board the 2023-2024 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) at 7:01 p.m. The public hearing concluded at 7:20 p.m.

Joe Molina, elementary principal, presented the elementary and secondary schools’ reports.

Hamilton presented the board with the athletic department report.

Tanya Phillips, secondary principal, presented the board with the Teacher Incentive Allotment information.

A motion was made by Casey Smith and seconded by Matt Humphreys to approve the consent agenda as presented. The motion passed, 7-0.

There was no action on a budget amendment.

A motion was made by Cody Schmidt and seconded by Andrew Adams to approve the bid on Tax Deed 488 as presented. The motion passed, 7-0.

A motion was made by Pat Ortiz and seconded by Smith to order a school trustee election for May 3, 2025, to elect trustees for Place 3, Place 4, and Place 7 (At Large) positions. The motion passed, 7-0.

A motion was made by Smith and seconded by Schmidt to approve Laurie Hinson as the election official for the May 3, 2025, school trustee election; the motion passed, 7-0.

A motion was made by Ortiz and seconded by Smith to approve Mindy Little as the election official for the May 3, 2025, school trustee election for the McAdoo area; the motion passed, 7-0.

A motion was made by Adams and seconded by Schmidt to approve a resolution for a joint election agreement between Spur ISD and the City of Spur. The motion passed, 7-0.

A motion was made by Schmidt and seconded by Smith that the board adopt TASB Legal and Local Policy Update 124 as presented. The motion passed, 7-0.

A motion was made by Smith and seconded by Humphreys to approve the Summer Feeding Program waiver for Spur ISD. The motion passed, 7-0.

The board convened into executive session at 8:46 p.m. to discuss the superintendent evaluation. The board ended its closed executive session at 9:38 p.m. with the following action taken: A motion was made by Ortiz and seconded by Humphreys to extend Craig Hamilton’s current contract from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. The motion passed, 7-0.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:13 p.m.

Members present were Roy Sanchez Pat Ortiz, Cody Schmidt, Andrew Adams, TerriWyatt,MattHumphreys and Casey Smith.

Others present were Superintendent Craig Hamilton, Secondary Principal Tanya Phillips, Elementary Principal Jose Molina, Business Manager Bridgette Zarate, and Superintendent Secretary April Ortiz.
