Elections were held May 3, 2025 across Texas, and numerous municipal and school board elections were on ballots in counties in the Texas Spur readership area.
All information below is from unofficial results shared Saturday night with The Texas Spur by election workers.
DICKENS COUNTY: MAYOR OF DICKENS In the City of Dickens mayor’s race, incumbent David Warren has been reelected, with 49 votes to 30 for challenger Suzanne Reese.
City council seats were uncontested for incumbents Jesus Zarate (seat 1), who received 52 votes, and Nancy Hale (seat 2), with 67 votes.
In the Spur mayor’s race to succeed retiring mayor Louise Jones, candidate John Schmidt, with 46 votes, has defeated opponent Billy R. Spears, who had earlier said he was withdrawing but whose name was already on the ballot, with 13 votes.
Unopposed alderman candidates Don Wright (Ward 2) received 12 votes; Rhea Melton (Ward 3) received 27; and Tom Martin (Ward 1) received 10 votes.
The Spur city council will canvass votes during a special meeting May 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
SPUR ISD BOARD
In the May 3 school board trustee election for Spur ISD, in Place 3, incumbent Terri Wyatt will keep her seat with 32 votes to Kayla Bateman’s 25 and Samantha Hardin’s 1.
Incumbent Andrew Adams returns to Place 4 with 6 votes, and at-large incumbent Casey Smith also returns, with 56 total.
JAYTON: MAYOR OF JAYTON
In the race for Mayor of City of Jayton, Joseph Buerkle, with 124 votes, has defeated Cody Hall, with 45 votes.
For City Council, at-large incumbents Mickey Alexander garnered 110 votes and and Melissa Redford 123; both were unopposed and retain their seats.
JAYTON: JAYTON-GIRARD ISD
In the race to fill two places on the JGISD school board, the top vote-getters were McKenzie “Kenzie” Chisum, with 147, and Andy Vargas, with 108 votes; they have defeated Bailey Chisum, with 103 votes, and Steven Collins, with 53 votes.
