The Dickens County- Spur Public Library was recently informed that it is the recipient of a $6,930 grant from the Tocker Foundation. The Tocker Foundation promotes Texas public libraries in communities of 12,000 population or less. Grant applications are reviewed by the Foundation’s board of directors at their semiannual meetings. This grant brings the cumulative grant support to the Dickens County-Spur Public Library to a total of $136,692.
The main portion of the grant, $5,000, is to be spent on enhancing the collection by weeding out materials and adding new ones. The library will be getting new release fiction in both regular and large print. We will also be getting new youth and young adult books in regular and large print.
We have quite a few new readers thanks to our very popular story time on Thursday mornings, so we will be getting new easy readers and board books.
The remainder of the grant monies will be used to buy two new computers for the library. While most of our citizens get internet at home, there are still a few who rely on the library to use a computer to browse the internet for job searching, house hunting and a variety of other reasons.
