In last week’s UIL 1A District 8 Academic Contest held March 26 in Paducah, Spur ISD claimed the top spot in overall school sweepstakes, with 500 points. Eighteen Spur students qualified for the Regional meet.
Guthrie finished 2nd with 318.166 points, Valley 3rd with 252.5, followed by Matador with 144.333, Paducah with 131, and Patton Springs with 106.
RESULTS BY SUBJECT AREA In Accounting, the team of Kodah Tagle, Steven Hulme, Judson Hamilton and Weslyn Givens scored 307 total points for 1st place, to advance to Region. Kodah Tagle took 1st place, Steven Hulme took 2nd, Weslyn Givens took 3rd, and Judson Hamilton took 4th. All four students advance to Region.
In Calculator Applications, the team of Stacy Wang, Kimberlee Segura, Erin McGalliard and Ana Cortado-Rodriguez placed 3rd, with 221 total points. Stacy Wang took 6th place, and will be Regional Alternate. Kimberlee Segura placed 11th, Erin McGalliard placed 13th, and Ana Cortado-Rodriguez placed 20th.
In Copy Editing, Kylie Weiser was tied for 3rd and advances to Region; Weslyn Givens placed 5th and will be Regional Alternate.
In Current Issues and Events, the team of Joshua Ortiz, Adrian Garza-West, Brody Dempsey and Judson Hamilton took 3rd place, with 96 points. Joshua Or- tiz placed 6th and will be Regional Alternate. Adrian Garza-West placed 8th, and Brody Dempsey and Judson Hamilton tied for 14th place.
In
Brandon Garza-West placed 1st, Keylee Molina placed 2nd, Weslyn Givens placed 3rd, and all three advance to Region.
In Informative Speaking, Joshua Ortiz placed 1st, Adrian Garza-West, placed 2nd, Sariah Sepeda placed 3rd, and all three advance to Region.
In Lincoln Douglas Debate, Lily-Ann Vaughn placed 1st and advances to Region.
In Literary Criticism, the Spur team of Leah Munoz, Saegan Molina and Chelsea Davis placed 1st and will advance to Region. Leah Munoz placed 1st, Saegan Molina placed 3rd and both advance to Region; Chelsea Davis placed 4th and will be Regional Alternate.
In Mathematics, the team of Stacy Wang, Ana Cortado-Rodriguez, Kodah Tagle and Paula Cano-Fernandez placed 2nd with 144 points and will be Regional Alternate. Stacy Wang took 2nd place and will advance to Region; Kodah Tagle and Ana Cortado-Rodriguez were tied for 7th place; and Paula Cano-Fernandez placed 11th.
In Number Sense, the team of Stacy Wang, Kodah Tagle, Keylee Molina and Steven Hulme took 2nd place with 73 points and will be Regional Alternate. Stacy Wang placed 2nd and will advance to Region. Kodah Tagle placed 10th, Keylee Molina placed 14th and Steven Hulme placed 19th.
In Persuasive Speaking, Saegan Molina placed 1st and Daven Dempsey placed 2nd, both advancing to Region; Cheyanne Howell placed 4th and will serve as Regional Alternate.
In Poetry Interpretation, Jeri Holcomb placed 3rd and advances to Region.
In Prose Interpretation, Kimberly Pafford placed 4th and will be Regional Alternate.
In Ready Writing, Leah Munoz placed 4th and will be Regional Alternate.
In Science, Wade McGalliard placed 7th and was also a top scorer in Chemistry.
In Social Studies, the team of Adrian Garza-West, Steven Hulme and Joshua Ortiz took 2nd place with a score of 62 and will be Regional Alternates. Adrian Garza-West placed 3rd, and advances to Region; Steven Hulme placed 6th and will be Regional Alternate; and Joshua Ortiz placed 10th.
In Spelling, the team of Brandon Garza-West, Leah Munoz and Pursphony Garcia took 1st place with a score of 141 and advance to Region. Brandon Garza-West placed 1st, Leah Munoz placed 2nd, and Pursphony Garcia placed 3rd, and all three advance to Region.
In Speech, Spur took 1st place with a score of 153.
In Journalism, Spur took 2nd place with a score of 60.
