Two Spur High School seniors signed commitments Monday to join teams at area colleges—and the entire student body was on hand to celebrate with them.
Macye Maben of Spur will compete in rodeo events for New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs.
“I’m extremely excited,” said Maben, who plans to major in animal science. Maben was accompanied by NMJC’s head women’s rodeo coach, Alexa Wilcox.
Maben is the daughter of Tye and Kelly Maben of Spur and the granddaughter ofRandyandLisaOgden of Gail and Benny Maben of Shallowater and the late Sue Maben.
Tatum Walker, who excelled both in field events and on the basketball court as a Spur Bulldog, signed to play basketball for the Stingers at Howard Payne University, a four-year institution in Brownwood, Texas.
Walker is the daughter of Cammie Walker and the late C.J. Walker of Spur, and sister of three brothers, Brendon, Quincy and Trae. She is the granddaughter of Leo and Joan Day and Cal and Fay Walker of Spur.
Walker plans to pursue studies in early childhood education. But basketball’s got her excited, too. “I can’t wait to continue playing,” she said.
