“A Minecraft Movie,” the number one movie in U.S. box office returns for 2025 to date, will be showing at The Palace Theater in downtown Spur Saturday, Aug. 9.
Sponsored by Dickens County’s local Galaxy Digital plant, the PG-13 movie is based on the widely popular video game and stars Jack Black. Admission is free for all area elementary, middle and high school students, including those who are home-schooled.
Adult admission is $5, and a wide range of concession snacks and popcorn will be available for purchase as a fundraiser for the Dickens County Historical Commission, which operates the historic Palace Theater.
The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. and the movie plays at 7:00 p.m. The theater is located at 422 Burlington Ave. in Spur.
The premise of the film is that four misfits are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into a bizarre cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a quest with an unexpected expert crafter.
