We’re excited to let everyone know that Storytime with Joanna will resume on Tuesday, July 3rd! Regular Storytime continues to be held every Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. here at the Dickens County-Spur Public Library. Bring the little ones and join us for a fun and engaging time filled with stories and crafts.
Don’t forget our Adult Summer Reading Contest is still underway! For every three books read (or listened to), readers will earn one entry into our drawing for a $50 gift card to Lawrence Brothers Grocery. Audiobooks count.
To participate, readers must be 18 years of age or older, live in Dickens County, and have a valid Dickens County-Spur Public Library card.
The drawing will be held live on Facebook on Thursday, August 28 at 2 p.m., and all entries must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27.
We’ve also added a couple of exciting new juvenile large print titles for our young readers: “Small Spaces” by Katherine Arden is a spooky and suspenseful story following eleven-year-old Ollie, who discovers a mysterious book that warns her to “Avoid large places at night… Keep to small.” When a class field trip goes terribly wrong, Ollie finds herself in a chilling race to survive with her friends and the warnings from the book may be their only hope. Perfect for brave middle-grade readers who enjoy a good ghost story with heart.
“Starfish” by Lisa Fipps is a heartfelt novel-in-verse that tells the story of Ellie, a girl who’s been bullied about her weight for years.With the help of a supportive therapist and a growing sense of self-worth, Ellie finds her voice and learns to stand up for herself. It’s an empowering read that encourages kindness, confidence, and the beauty of being unapologetically yourself.
