On a warm, blue-sky Tuesday evening, Spur residents could begin to see the range of options afforded local citizens by having the community swimming pool reopened, as the city’s first water aerobics class accommodated a group of more than 20 women. Instructor Lexie Hinson, the county’s Texas Farm Bureau agent but also a certified fitness instructor, led them through a variety of exercises to improve stamina and agility.
The pool had been closed and sitting in limbo for the more than a decade due to the expense of renovation until Galaxy Digital, a relatively new industry in Dickens County, provided a community support grant, allowing the pool to reopen Memorial Day 2024.
In its second season, pool manager Kay Stephenson has been actively reaching out to locals to assess how they would best like to use this new asset. She has also recruited additional lifeguard staff, who were certified via Red Cross training before beginning on the job.
Stephenson has been polling residents about a Senior Swim Time and a Mommy/Daddy and Me Swim Time late mornings and early afternoons on Tuesdays. The cost would be regular pool fees, with kids under 3 free.
For the 2025 summer season, the pool has established the regular hours of Thursday through Saturday 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The aerobics class is every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
