QUITAQUE—Caprock Canyons State Parks continues to have events through August. Summer bat tours via park van are scheduled for July 25, August 1, August 8, August 15, August 22 and August 29. Tours are limited to 13 people on each date.
Visitors will meet at Monks Crossing on Farm to Market Road 689 two hours before sunset. It is highly recommended that you bring bug spray, water, binoculars and a camera for a non-flash photography opportunity.

‘Texas, the Outdoor Musical’ continues in Palo Duro Canyon through Aug. 9 CANYON—‘Texas, the Outdoor Musical,” performed in Palo Duro Canyon for 58 years continues this year through August 9, 2025.
A cast of more than 60 actors, singers and dancers take the stage to kick off the show that millions of fans from all around the world have come to see.
A family-friendly show set against an authentic tapestry of history, the show’s fictional characters bring to life the stories, struggles and triumphs of the settlers of the Texas Panhandle in the 1800’s. Song and dance abound – and a generous helping of good ol’Texas humor too – with spellbinding lighting and special effects.
Tickets range from $37 to $52 with discounts for senior citizens, military and children.

SILVERTON--The 133rd Annual Briscoe County Celebration is right around the corner, August 1 and 2. Fun activities await all ages including a parade, rodeo, car show, shopping, picnic, and more.
The weekend will kick off with the Ranch Rodeo Friday night, August 1 at 6 p.m. in the Woods Memorial Arena (corner of Broadway and Eight Street). A Ranch Rodeo is a special event during which working cowboys and cowgirls compete as teams.
Each team draws on their talents of everyday ranch life to compete in events such as wild cow milking, stray gathering, branding, and ranch bronc riding. On the ranch, kiddos are raised to make a hand alongside the adults and will have their chance at competing in Mutton Bustin’, Mini Donkey Riding, Calf Scramble, and a Boot Race.
Adult spectators wishing to enjoy the entertainment of genuine Texas cowboys and cowgirls will pay an entry fee of $10 at the gate on Friday night (entry fee increases to $15 Saturday night). A family friendly event, kids get in for $5. You may bring a cooler full of your favorite beverage for an additional $5, so long as it doesn’t contain any glass bottles.
