The Friends of the Library back to school supply drive is going strong.
We have had several families fill out the forms to get school supplies, but we still have plenty left. I previously said we need the forms in by July 31st, but that is just to ensure we could get everything on their list by the time school starts. We will continue taking forms until after school starts.
I am planning on being at Spur ISD’s open house on August 12 to have forms available for those who haven’t yet gotten their supplies. A citizen who wishes to remain anonymous stopped by and asked about the school supply program last week. After I explained how it works, this person handed me a fifty-dollar bill and said “I would like for you to use this to buy school supplies.” It is not the first time this person has done this at the library, and I know they volunteer and do great things in other areas of our community. If you are reading this I would like to say thank you again and thank you for all you do in our area. Folks like you are who make a place like Spur, Texas a great place to live!
We had more donations of children’s books lately. Thanks to these donations we were able to add quite a few new books in the children’s area. One of these is “Ten Rubber Ducks” by Eric Carle. Another is “Bears” by Sarah Courtauld, a first reading level 2 book which is perfect for children who are learning to read but not yet reading alone.
In “Daniel Gets Scared” by Maggie Testa, Daniel Tiger and O the Owl get scared during a thunderstorm in this Pre-level 1 Ready-to-Read story based on a popular episode of “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.”
Therewasalsoasetoffive learning books titled “Plants and Trees,” “Life on the Ice,” “Coral Reefs,” “Earth and Stars,”and“LargeAnimals.” Children love these colorful booksthatteachthemabout so many different subjects. It is so easy to just Google
