The 2018 - 2019 Spur Mighty Bulldog Band is looking good. The band began practicing drills/sets, music and marching two weeks before the beginning of classes. This year the band is approximately 50 kids strong, representing 8th through 12th grades, including three seniors.
Greg Garrison is the new band director, coming to Spur from Shamrock ISD. He has won multiple awards and is very passionate about the work. Garrison loves teaching kids and making band programs successful. The band also welcomes two new band majors this year, junior Erika Alvarez and freshman Zek Mosley.
Garrison plans to create a “band council” that will function like a school board, meeting monthly to discuss issues and concerns within the band. Seniors are encouraged to run for president and vice president.
The band program for halftime performances this year is old-school rock ‘n’ roll. “I want music that the fans enjoy and the band will have fun playing,” Garrison said. Fans can look forward to “Iron Man” by Ozzy Osbourne, “Evil Ways” by Santana and “1000 dances” by Wilson Pickett.
The 2018-2019 Spur Bulldog Mighty Band is really excited for this upcoming year and ready to see what they can accomplish as a team.
