Sports journalists ran out of superlatives in describing the 2025 Jayton Jaybirds.
Yes, they won the State football championship at Jerry World in Arlington in December.
But this is the same handful of boys, who earlier—and later—in the year, won the State basketball championships, and made it to State in track, FFA, UIL Academics and just about everything.
And some of them even marched with the band at half-time who also got State honors.
But last year started just like this year, the first week of August, it all started one day at a time with the first drill and the first workout.
Coach Josh Stanaland has been leading the Jaybird football team for 19 years, and this year they have 22 players ready to go and continue the legacy of Jayton.
