Ronda Dalton of Dickens County 4-H was awarded the Salute To Excellence Award from Texas 4-H Youth Development Program at Texas 4-H Round Up on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. This award recognizes 4-H volunteers for their service to the 4-H program. Each district may select two recipients each year. With over 30 years of dedicated volunteerism across 2 states, 3 districts and 5 counties, Dalton exemplifies the very essence of the 4-H mission and has made a profound impact on numerous young individuals through her tireless commitment to “Making the Best Better.”
Throughout her extensive tenure, Ronda has been an integral member of the 4-H community, consistently stepping up to lead meetings, mentor youth, and ensure the smooth operation of every event. Her unwavering dedication to excellence is evident in her meticulous guidance in perfecting record books, assisting members in refining their skills in documenting their experiences and achievements with precision and professionalism. In addition to being club manager, she has also served as a leader for various projects, such as Sewing, Public Speaking, Livestock, Veterinary Science, and Foods. She has helped many 4-H members achieve success both locally and nationally in many areas. She has even been a part of the International Exchange Program with Japanese youth, extending 4-H’s reach globally In addition to her leadership at club meetings, Dalton has served as judge at all levels from County to National in varied competitions, offering fair and constructive evaluations that encourage growth and learning. Whether judging Record Books, livestock, public speaking, or project exhibitions, her keen eye for detail and comprehensive knowledge of 4-H principles have provided invaluable insights to participants striving for improvement. She has also helped numerous 4-H members apply and win many thousands of dollars in 4-H and other scholarships.
Dalton has always shown a passion for learning and has always strived to provide opportunities for members even when it is out of her comfort zone. Over the years she has been able to help members with livestock from poultry and rabbits to beef and sheep. She will tell you that she has been ringside for every animal that is shown at a stock show, whether it is her own kids or her club kids. Most recently she has been learning alongside members about Food Challenge and the nuances of Meat Judging.
Beyond structured meetings and competitions, Dalton has devoted countless hours to transporting 4-H members to and from competitions all over the United States, camps, State and National Congress activities, stock shows, and Round Up, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of personal circumstances. Her selfless willingness to spend long hours on the road, sacrificing her personal time for the benefit of the youth, is a testament to her steadfast support for the 4-H program.
Dalton has also been privileged to help several youths achieve success through the years on many state boards and ambassadors, along with State council members and officers.
Above all, Dalton has been a role model and mentor, instilling a sense of responsibility, leadership, and personal growth in all who have had the privilege of working with her. Her passion for empowering youth and fostering lifelong skills has created a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of 4-H members.
