On June 24, thirteen members of the Dickens County 4-H group set off for District 3’s annual 10 County Camp in Roaring Springs.
4-H members learned about wildlife with a visit from Pinocchio the longnosed snake, an indigo snake, horny toads and a box turtle. They also got to investigate hides and skulls from various animals.
The group next took aim (literally!) and tested their archery skills, from learning whistle commands to actually shooting compound bows.
Leadership skills, including nonverbal communication and teamwork, were employed in the 4-Way tug-of-war.
At the Hydration Station, campers learned how to keep their energy up while conquering the summer heat. Then came Water Management and Conservation, where they dove into fun ways to conserve water and be eco-heroes.
Swimming offered a refreshing escape from the summer heat, as the campers cooled off at the Springs. Of course, it’s not 4-H camp without a dance. Two-step, Cotton-Eye Joe, line dances and rock and roll rounded off this full day of activities.
