According to Texas 4-H, record-keeping is a valuable skill taught to members of the Texas 4-H program. Participants are encouraged to keep project records and have these records reviewed annually by submitting a record book.
The primary purposes of completing a record book are for a young person to develop the skills necessary to set goals, work toward achieving those goals, reflect on his/her experiences, and set new and higher goals for themselves. A secondary benefit is to prepare young people for the process of completing academic scholarship and/or collegiate admission applications.
The record book allows 4-H members to tell how they have grown, what they have learned, where they came up short and to do it creatively within outlined parameters. The books also demonstrate the importance of keeping a written document of what has been done, provides a written platform for goal setting and documentation of the actions required to reach goals, and provides an opportunity for competition at County, District, and State levels.
Dickens 4-H Seniors performed well in the District 3 competition in Archer City earlier this month.
In the Senior division, Jeri Holcomb earned 1st place in Fashion and Interior Design and will be going to the State Competition later this summer.
In the Intermediate division, CalvinHays Chapman won 1st place in Animal Agriculture (Meat Science); Maddee Foster got 2nd place in Horse; Rylee Foster won 1st place in Goat; and Paisley Smith won 1st place in Horse.
In the Junior division, Henry Chapman won 1st place in Beef.
