A young cattle breeder from Dickens County has made a big mark in the livestock world.
Henry Chapman, a 4thgrader representing Dicken County 4-H and Patton Springs ISD, took home first place in class in the Charolais Open Cattle Show March 8 at the Houston Livestock Show with his early spring heifer, Ima Cheerleader.
Chapman’s victory is especially meaningful as Ima Cheerleader was both bred and owned by him. The young showman was present when she was born, making the win even more personal and rewarding. His dedication, care and hard work were evident in the show ring, where his heifer stood out among tough competition.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Open Beef Competition is one of the most prestigious livestock events in the country, drawing competitors from across Texas,theU.S.andtheworld. Winning first place in the early spring heifer category is a major accomplishment, particularly for a young competitor like Chapman.
