GOODBYE, ‘HO HO HOWDY’ Before the Texas Treasure Business Award presentation M arch 10 at the Palace Theater, longtime Dickens County Historical Commission member Harry Bob Martin, left, recalled memories of the late Ronnie White of Spur, who agreed to play the role of Santa Claus for the theater’s fund-raiser in 2004—just once. Santa arrived at the theater that year on horseback. White went on to fill the role for 19 more Christmases; he passed away January 4, only two weeks after his last appearance at the Palace. Martin presented a thank-you plaque to widow Glenda White, former mayor pro tem of Spur; many family members gathered for the occasion, along with Judy Clay of Spur, who starred as Mrs. Claus. A memorial seat plaque was also installed on the Palace’s front row.
