Five Hermleigh players scored in double figures as the Lady Cardinals defeated Patton Springs 69-48 in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 at Roosevelt.
Hermleigh (30-5) defeated the Patton Springs Lady Rangers 69-48 Tuesday, Feb. 19; then bested Veribest 44-39 on Friday, Feb. 22; and then beat Rankin 58-46 in the Region II-1A girls basketball finals Saturday, Feb. 23 earning them a back-to-back state playoff berth.
In the Patton Springs game, Ciera Digby scored all 11 of her points in the first half as Hermleigh built a 30-18 halftime lead. Lynzie Stewart scored 11 of Hermleigh’s 22 points in the third quarter as the Lady Cardinals built a 52-37 lead. Makia Gonzales scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the second half. Lillyan Digby and Sandra Carr scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lady Cardinals are on a 15-game winning streak and now Hermleigh, which lost to eventual state champion Nazareth in the state semifinals last year, gets another trip to state.
