The Patton Springs Rangers traveled to Silverton Thursday, Nov. 2 to face off with the Owls in their second district game of the season. They headed into the game without the leadership of their starting QB, freshman Ralph Garza, who was out with a mild concussion from the week before, and without a starting linebacker, sophomore Devon Jones, who was struggling with an ongoing back injury. Sophomore David Reyna stepped into the position of QB as the Rangers began play against the Owls.
With both teams looking for another shot to capitalize on hopes for a playoff position, the Rangers lined up to receive the ball to start the game. Though the Rangers were fired up, they started off rocky, beginning the game by turning the ball over with a safety. The Owls looked to score but were stopped when the Rangers forced a fumble.
The Rangers fought for every down this game but would be stopped each drive by the Owls. The Owls scored several Touchdowns on the Rangers, bringing the game to 34-0 with about 8 minutes left to play in the half.
The Rangers, still looking for an answer, were backed into their own 5 yard line where they suffered another crucial injury, losing Reyna to a hip injury. With the Rangers down to 5 players, they decided to forfeit the game to prevent any further injuries to the Ranger bench.
This sent the Owls undefeated into their third week of district play, leaving only the Motley County Matadors to square up against. The Rangers fell 0-2, sending them into their final week of district play against the Kress Kangaroos at their house Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
