Before a playoff run can happen you first have to take care of business in your district, and Jayton did that Thursday night with a 54-0 victory over the Aspermont Hornets.
Someone once asked what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Well in this case nothing, because they are on the same team. The Jayton offense is the unstoppable force and the Jayton defense is the immovable object. The unstoppable side saw Junior quarterback Sean Stanaland put the ball in the air to the tune of 122 yards and 3 touchdowns, and junior running back Bode Ham with 5 carries for 91 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
Head Coach Josh Stanaland commented on the success of his running back: “We are big believers in the weight room…We’re not always going to have the talent we have this year and we believe that if we’re really good in the weight room year in and year out it’s always going to give us a chance to be physical and to be strong. Bode is a really good example of what happens when a really good athlete believes in it and is really good in there.”
The immovable object saw the defensive line trio of Griff Reel, Colt Gentry and Ayden Salazar account for 34 tackles while holding the rushing attack of the Hornets to just 71 yards on 24 carries. Stanaland

I don’t think that’s ever been done in school history. – HEAD COACHJOSH STANALAND also said regarding his defensive line, “A lot of it was them being prepared. Our kids do a really good job on their own of looking at film and getting a feel for our opponents’ tendencies. Ayden stuffing it up, Colt, Griff…our defensive line has been a strength all year and I’m just proud of them. We held a really good running football team to not many yards tonight.”
The result of such effort is a perfect 10-0 record and a third consecutive district championship. At the end of the regular season Stanaland is all praise for his hard-working boys. “They’ve gone 10-0 and 45’d ten consecutive teams,” he said. “I don’t think that’s ever been done in school history. It’s pretty impressive and that’s against a pretty tough schedule; about as tough as I could build it. It’s step one, but we’re happy to have achieved it.”
