Both teams were strong on the bump last Thursday, but the Jayton varsity Jaybirds defeated Jonesboro 3-1 in game 2 of the tournament. Sean Stanaland started the game for Jaybirds and recorded 11 outs.
Jayton got on the board in the top of the third inning after Stanaland doubled to center field, and Garrison Allen grounded out, each scoring one run.
Stanaland led things off for the Jaybirds. The pitcher allowed two hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking three. #4 led things off on the mound for Jonesboro. The hurler gave up seven hits and three runs over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Bode Ham appeared in relief for Jayton.
Allen drove the middle of the lineup, leading Jayton with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Stanaland and Lorenzo Vargas each collected two hits for Jayton Varsity Jaybirds. Jayton Varsity Jaybirds were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Allen had the most chances in the field with seven.
#8 and #2 each collected one hit for Jonesboro. #15 led the team with one run batted in. Jonesboro turned two double plays in the game.
