It was a busy week at the Spur Golf Association, with a Tuesday scramble, a Wednesday board meeting, and the Junior Class Fundraiser Tournament on Saturday.
June 10 scramble results. We had a wonderful turnout, with 39 players participating. There was a three-way tie for first place, with the following teams each shooting 31 (5 under par):
• Robert, Andy and Cory Daughtry, Shane and Charla Parsons
• Brian Beaty, Aaron Awe, Tra Howell, Floyd Starkey
• Freddy Gonzalez, Todd Bezner, Russell and Dana Conrad Teams proceeded to a playoff on Hole #1. The team of Daughtry/ Parsons missed their putt, securing third place, so the teams of Beaty/Awe/Howell/Starkey and the team of Gonzalez/Bezner/ Conrad went to another playoff round with a chip-off, resulting in the team of Beaty/Awe/Howell and Starkey winning 1st place with Floyd’s closest-to-the-hole chip from the men’s bac- nine tee box on hole #2.

SGA board meeting. The board of directors met Wednesday evening, reporting that the Hackers Tournament had a great turnout, is growing each year and is a wonderful way to bring new people and money spent at our local businesses.
The Board will be approaching the Spur Economic Development Corporation to secure funds for some repairs to the cart sheds, as we have many that are unusable and have been in disrepair for quite some time. We are also hoping to secure funds to renovate the clubhouse, as it needs a little attention too.
The board’s fundraising money goes towards course upkeep and any mowing equipment we may need to purchase, maintain and repair, and we are maintaining city property with regards to the building improvement—so are hoping to secure funds from EDC to get the needed cart shed and clubhouse repairs completed. We always have a need for volunteers at the course; if you are interested, please contact one of the board members.
Junior Class fundraiser, June 14. The Spur High School Junior Class Fundraiser Tournament was a success! Thirteen teams showed up to play and were generous in their donations to the class. The team of Andrew and Kayla Bateman, Shane and Lisa Shobert, and the team of Brooke and Jett Reese, Jimmy Ashley and Kevin Marshall had a playoff for first place with the team of Reese/ Ashley/Marshall winning the first-place money in the 1st flight.
The team of Alejandro Diaz, Ralph Frausto, Chance Cupp and Jacob Sanchez won first place money in the 2nd flight, with the team of Zach Loudermilk, Landon White, Tra Howell and Dalton Valdez winning second place.
Andrew Bateman got closest to the pin on #8, and Kayla Bateman got longest drive on #4.
