The Patton Springs Rangers opened their preseason at home against the Claude Mustangs on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Claude Mustangs were the first out of the gate with a kickoff return for a touchdown on the first play of the game. The Rangers tried to answer back but came up short in their first offensive series.
Early in the second quarter the Rangers would find that answer in their center #75, Devon Jones. Quarterback Ralph Garza dropped back to pass on second down, but the play was quickly compromised by intense pressure from the Mustangs’ defensive line. Moments before the sack, Garza made the pitch to Jones who then scrambled 35 yards up the field for the Rangers only touchdown of the night.
As both teams continued to fight, the Claude Mustangs would end up pulling away with a 57-6 win over the Rangers. Patton Springs will head to Cotton Center on Friday, Sept. 7.
