    The 2024 Spur Bulldogs football team captured the imagination of sports fans across the state last year with its own version of a Cinderella story. Head coach Tate Clark had health issues and had to be hospitalized, and in the world of six-man, there’s usually not a lot of extra staff—so Spur ISD superintendent Craig Hamilton (a former coach in earlier days) jumped in, and led the team to its first undefeated season since 1994, a District championship and a playoff berth. Though Clark is back in health and on duty this fall, Hamilton will assist with the transition.

    A dozen players have returned from that 2024 championship team, making the 2025 year one sure to be exciting.

    Recent UIL regulations have changed the way high school football teams start their seasons, said Clark. The traditional “two-a-day” schedules have changed— technically now, they are “one-a-days.”

    Note that Midnight Madness will be Saturday, Aug. 9, and Meet the Bulldogs will be Tuesday, Aug. 19.
