The theme for the 2018
Kent County 4-H Food Show, scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Jayton Community Center, is Restaurant Re-Creations. Each participant will choose one of their favorite restaurant dishes and create a healthier version.
The four categories are Main Dish, Fruits & Vegetables, Breads & Cereals and Nutritious Snacks. Participants will present their re-creations individually to two judges on Sunday afternoon. Participants with the highest score in each category will move on to the district competition.
Kent County 4-H kids have been meeting weekly with Belle Branham and Jami Arnold, Food & Nutrition Project adult leaders, to learn about nutrition and food safety. The group went to the South Plains Food Bank to pick apples, donated to the food drive for the Bruce Long Food Pantry, and will donate baked goods to the Kent County Health and Safety Fair for their community service projects.
