South Plains Electric Cooperative is committed to empowering the communities they serve, according to an open call for applications issued recently. Of course, that mission includes providing electricity, but it’s so much more than that, organizers said—it means investing in our young people, the leaders of tomorrow. And one of the main ways South Plains Electric works to empower local youth is through the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, a trip to Washington, D.C.
This year, South Plains Electric is proud to sponsor four high school students from its service area to participate in Youth Tour, June 15-23, 2025. Youth Tour delegates will also receive a $1,000 scholarship from Operation Round Up.

Eligible entrants must:
• Be a high school junior or senior at a qualifying school.
• Be a member of South Plains Electric Cooperative.
• Apply online.
• Participate in an online interview to be judged based on essay questions, knowledge of subject, speaking ability, poise and other criteria.
Applications must be submitted online at SPEC. coop/youthtour by 5 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
