Spur Elementary 3rd graders and homeroom teachers, Tee Hale and Pat Hightower, toured KCBD News Channel 11 in Lubbock on April 16.
Tour guide and reporter Curtis Heyen showed the class the ins and outs of TV reporting. He demonstrated how the green screen works. Each child had an opportunity to wear the green cloak that the station calls the “Invisibility Cloak” and to stand in front of the green screen where they seemed to just disappear. Heyen told them about reporters, the cameras and many parts of news reporting.
The class watched as Steve Divine, weather forecaster, presented the noon weather report. Devine talked to the students about his career choice and what is involved with weather forecasting.
Students observed Shaley Sanders, news anchor and reporter, giving the news which included a report about the Notre Dame Cathedral burning. She told them about her position as anchor and reporter.
To cap off the tour the group got to be on KCBD TV as the noon report was signing off.
