At press time the Spurettes and the Bulldogs were in the hunt for basketball playoff bids.
The Spurettes (8-1) were set to host the Patton Springs Lady Rangers (9-0) Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the Domes. Whoever won that game set up a domino effect of district implications.
If Patton Springs won, they became the outright district champion and earned a first-round bye in the playoffs.
If the Spurettes won, it could have set up a coin toss or even a third game being played between the Lady Rangers and the Spurettes to determine the district champion.
If the Spurettes were to prevail in either of those endeavors, they would get a first-week bye.
Overall, three teams advance out of 1A District 15 to the post-season.
At press time the top three girls’ teams were: 1. Patton Springs; 2. Spur; and 3. The Jayton Lady Jays (5-4).
The lower qualifiers play earlier. The bi-district games are tentatively set for Feb. 18-19.
For the Bulldogs, they are tied with Motley County for third place. At press time the top three boys’ teams were: 1. Paducah (7-0); 2. Jayton (6-1) and tie 3. Spur (3-4) and Motley County (3-4).
The Bulldogs have two games left in their season, Motley County on Friday and Guthrie on Tuesday. They can determine their post-season district destiny by putting those two games in the win column.
