The Spur Bulldogs traveled to Meadow for the week four game of the 2024 varsity football season, knocking off their opponent 62–14 to remain undefeated for the preseason.
Spur won the toss and began the game receiving the ball. In four offense plays, #10 Margarito Pesina ran the ball 14 yards for the first Bulldog touchdown. #1 Brody Dempsey’s kick was not good.
The Broncos would try to respond, but the Bulldogs defense was too much. On fourth down, Dempsey intercepted the pass, making it Spur’s ball. In just four plays, #15 Jagger Zarate would score; the extra points were no good, giving Spur a 12–0 lead. Meadow would try again for a long pass, but #6 Ace Walker intercepted the ball.
The Bulldog offense scored again with #3 Josh Ortiz throwing a 10-yard pass to Walker in the end zone. Dempsey’s kick was good, for a score of 0-20.
With 2:31 left in the first quarter, the Broncos would try again to score against the Bulldogs. Spur held Meadow on downs, and the next play, Walker ran through a hole provided by the offensive line to score a 40-yard touchdown. Dempsey’s kick through the uprights brought the first quarter to and end, 0–28, Spur.
Starting the second quarter, the Bulldogs’ defense was no joke. #21 Judson Hamilton pressured the opposing quarterback, forcing an incomplete pass bringing it to fourth down. Hamilton didn’t back down, resulting in a sack and the Bulldogs holding the Broncos on downs. Spur gained the ball back, showing no mercy.
Walker would rush for 39 yards, resulting in a Bulldog touchdown and the extra-points attempt was no good.
Subbing in some players, Meadow got the ball and scoreed their first touchdown of the night, for 6-34 lead by Spur. The Spur Bulldogs responded with Walker rushing 70 yards for a Bulldog touchdown, followed by a good two-point kick by Dempsey.
Ortiz recovered a Bronco fumble, making it the Bulldogs’ ball. The Bulldog offense would work their way to the end zone with #6 rushing 10 yards for a touchdown. The extrapoints attempt was no good.
Hamilton pressured the quarterback and pushed him out of bounds for a turnover on downs. With 44 seconds left in the first half, #10 Margarito Pesina scored for the Bulldogs and Dempsey’s kick was good. Spur led, 6-56. With no time on the clock, Meadow threw a hail-mary pass. The Bulldogs tackled the Broncos, the ball squeezed out of the ball carrier’s hands and bounced off his helmet and into the hands of a Bronco standing in the end zone— breathing new life into Meadow’s score, 14–56, Spur.
The third quarter would be quick-lived. Meadow would receive the ball to start it off. The Bulldogs’ defense would hold the Broncos on downs getting the ball back. On the first offensive play, Ortiz would run 30 yards to score and end the ballgame with the mercy rule, 14–62, Spur.
“I thought the team performed well and made some strides to get ready for district play,” said Coach Hamilton said. “I am proud of the boys.”
The varsity Bulldogs will travel to Paducah September 27 for week 5 action. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Travel on over and support your Bulldogs.
