13th Annual Chocolate Fest slated for Feb. 9
The 13th Annual Chocolate Fest is slated for Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the 1818 Art House in downtown Snyder. Attendance every year is in the hundreds with a dozen or more wines, food samplings from local restaurants and other food innovators, live music (crowd favorite Lori Sealy Concept), artists painting live, fundraising activities and more. Every year this one-day celebration of all things chocolate is one of Snyder’s highlights of the year and a great opportunity to try an assortment of delicious wines, chocolates and foods. Featured food will be from Butcher’s Block, The Spanish Inn, The Ponderosa, 4-H Culinary Competition Team, and others. Tickets are $30 and are available at the Scurry County Museum (Tuesday–Friday 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m.) as well as online (convenience service fee applies to online sales; to avoid the fee buy your ticket in person). All proceeds benefit the Scurry County Museum.

Crosby County Chamber Banquet set for March 23
CROSBYTON — The Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture has set the date and chosen the speaker for its annual Chamber Banquet on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum. This year’s speaker will be CHS 1979 graduate Kelly Ferree, CEO and executive administrator for Coastal Eye Associates in Houston. His presentation will weave his personal and business stories though a talk he calls “Little Things Matter.” Tickets are $20. For more information, call the Chamber at (806) 853-7140.

Skilled thief steals tons of property in Stonewall County
ASPERMONT — Stonewall Road Superintendent Don Nail informed county officials earlier this month about continuing theft of the county’s road material. The thieves, however, are not hauling truckloads of gravel from county storage areas but from the tops of the roads themselves. Nail said the person or persons responsible are using heavy machinery to meticulously and systematically remove the road material from county roads after the material has been applied. He said it appears the newly laid gravel is being moved off of the county’s roadways and pushed onto the surrounding landowners’ private drives. In all likelihood, presumed Nail, the individual has been using a skid-steer to transfer the material, and several inches of recently laid gravel is being removed from one county road for at least 100 yards in both directions. Furthermore, the latest occurrence is not an isolated incident, and similar signs of damage and missing gravel have been discovered throughout the county.
