Fall is an ideal time to plant new perennials, shrubs, and trees, although spring is the usual season for setting out plants—nurseries have restocked, plants are vigorously growing, and their appeal is difficult to ignore.
Friends of the Library: just in case you forgot, dues are now due for the 2020 fiscal year. If you are not a Friend of the Library and would like to be, dues are $5.00 for an individual, $10.00 for a family and $25.00 for a business membership. We accept cash, check and PayPal. If you need the QR code to pay with PayPal contact me at the library. Dues are tax-deductible. Friends can also sign up to volunteer at the library for one or more of our fundraising events throughout the year. Early voting for the 2020 general election and local races will begin October 13, and to help voters familiarize themselves with candidates in Spur and Jayton races The Texas Spur solicited answers to questionnaires in all contested races. This week will feature contenders for Spur City Council; next week will focus on races in Jayton.
Recently, questions have come up regarding what is involved in setting up a business in Spur, or holding occasional sales such as fund-raisers and farmers’ markets.
Since 2018, to the delight of historians and genealogists, Texas Tech University’s Southwest Collection has been digitizing and uploading available issues of The Texas Spur from old microfilm and surviving copies of print newspapers starting with Vol 1., No. 1, in October 1909.
