DICKENS COUNTY-SPUR LIBRARY has classroom supply lists for students entering the 2026-2027 school year. The forms are available at the library, or you may email the library at dickenscountyspurlibrary@ gmail.com. We have forms for Spur ISD and Patton Springs ISD as well.

Pumpkin pickin’ time

From the garden Pumpkins are October’s vegetable. Garden-grown pumpkins are ready for harvesting and Pumpkin-Patch pumpkins are popping up everywhere.

Apple-Zucchini Upside-Down Crumble Bundt

We continue to experience a phenomenon, as our zucchini hasn’t yielded much. We had hardy blooms but not too many developed. Then, before I knew it, once again, there it was, a very large one, lurking beneath the gigantic plant. It seems when I least expect it, one is hiding and growing like crazy.

Spur Senior Citizens Menu

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., serves a noon meal Tuesday through Thursday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable, we offer a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472. A donation is always appreciated.

2026 Community Calendar

SPUR VISITOR CENTER, 101 Hill Street at Burlington Avenue, is operated by the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce and open during regular hours Tuesday–Saturday. Visitors seeking information on the area may email spurchamber@gmail.com or call (806) 271-3097.

Comptroller distributes $18,763 to Dickens County, $3,075 to Kent in Sept.

STATE SALES TAX REVENUE $4.4 BILLION FOR MONTH STATEWIDE AUSTIN— Texas Comptroller DonHuffines today said state sales tax revenue totaled $4.4 billion in September, 11.5% more than in September 2025.

THE SPUR AREA FOOD BANK serves families throughout Dickens County. The Food Bank is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization operating via private donations and welcomes donations to this community work.

Heirloom beignets

My husband and I recently made a quick stop in New Orleans and took time to head over to Café Du Monde. If you are not familiar with this establishment, they are known for café au lait (coffee with milk) and beignets, (pronounced “ben-yay”). Beignets may not look like a fancy pastry.
