Slaton Harvey House becomes 40th Texas state historic site

The Slaton Harvey House in southeastern Lubbock County is now officially the Texas Historical Commission’s 40th State Historic Site, expanding the state-supported program even more firmly and permanently in West Texas.

A Dickens of a holiday tale

Less than a week ago things at Spur’s Palace Theater were looking a lot more like the headquarters of the Grinch or Ebenezer Scrooge, with ceiling-high scaffolding blocking the stage, red mud coating part of the floor, and NO Santa Claus!

HD83’s Burrows says he has votes to be Texas House speaker after David Cook wins GOP caucus

In a stunning turn of events, state Rep. Dustin Burrows of Lubbock claimed Saturday evening that he had the necessary votes to become the next speaker of the Texas House. “The speaker’s race is over,” he said in a news conference that lasted less than two minutes.
