Eric Swenson, Spur High School Class of 1961, and Linda Beth Morrison Swenson, Class of 1965, have long appreciated the value of a Spur education and have raised Spur graduates of their own. But now, they’re seeking to extend that legacy to future generations.

Lainey Baldridge, an Ambassador level Girl Scout and recent graduate of Jayton High School, has completed her Gold Award Take Action Project, called “Sensory Stitches”, which focused on creating sensory mats to aid in mental health in rural nursing homes.

JGISD fourth-graders attended South Plains Electric Cooperative’s electrical safety program Wednesday. At the first station, students watched a bucket rescue and learned how crews work together during an emergency.

Corn is a predominate ingredient in Southwestern cuisine. Fresh corn is always better, but if it is not available during the fall and winter when we make more chilies, soups and chowders, frozen corn can be used.

From the garden Herb sachets are a sweet-smelling way gardeners can save summer’s herbs. The small pouches filled with any fragrant botanic blend of dried herbs, flower buds or petals can be tucked away in linen closets, bureau drawers, or under pillows.

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., serves a noon meal Tuesday through Thursday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable, we offer a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472. A donation is always appreciated.
