This week, all of us at the Dickens County–Spur Public Library are deeply saddened by the passing of Harvey Cannon. Harvey was a wonderful person who gave so much of himself to this community.

From the garden Some West Texas crops have suffered from our many sweltering days of 100+ degrees. Crops shrivel and leaves turn brittle even with plenty of water. One crop, however, that thrives with high temperatures is the summer squash zucchini.

Rural Texas pharmacies seek new tactics for viability

Earlier this spring The Texas Tribune produced an enterprise story about how rural pharmacies in our state are using a variety of strategies to preserve economic viability. One of those interviewed was Spur’s own hometown Dana’s Pharmacy.
