While wintry precipitation exits Texas, freezing temperatures continued through Tuesday over much of the state. The storm kicked off Friday evening with freezing rain and sleet and temperatures plunged to single digits on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Jayton student turns childhood hobby into community radio station

Jayton High School freshman Easton Bleiker has launched his own FM radio station, KTXC 92.9, broadcasting alternative rock and classic hits throughout town.

Spur’s railroad origins honored in 2025 commemorative mug

Spur, Texas, was founded in 1909, when E.P. Swenson and partners bought the Spur Ranch, subdivided it, and brought the Burlington Railroad through. The Stamford and Northwestern Railway, part of the larger Burlington system, built a line northwest from Stamford, with the first train arriving Nov.

WTC invites community to meet new president Dr. Laurie Sharp

SNYDER— Western Texas College will host a community meet and greet from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, welcoming its new president, Dr. Laurie Sharp. The come-and-go event, open to the public, will take place in the Westerner Room at the WTC Coliseum.

Atkinson named to Dickens City Council

Betty Renee Atkinson has been named by the City of Dickens to the at-large seat previously held by David Wallace who resigned in late 2025. Atkinson was sworn in at the January meeting, and she will be on the May 2 ballot.
