CUISINE & CULTURE Wow! What an August. After days and days of triple digits up to 110 degrees, gardeners are looking for some September relief. Garden yields this summer were disappointing. Fewer crops and those that did develop were smaller. What was going on?

On the blustery afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 23, Spur’s volunteer fire department was called out to assist in the northern portion of the county as a fire was reported on rural acreage west of FM28 north of McAdoo.

DONUTS TO DOLLARS is what Elida and Raymond Rodriguez of Crosby County will seek to achieve as the new proprietors of Spur’s donut-and-lunch spot at 410W. Hill Street.Their newly named R2 Donuts was welcomed with a ribbon cutting Aug. 22 by the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce.
