The Comptroller of the State of Texas encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) during the annual Tax-Free weekend Aug. 8–10.

The number one movie in U.S. box office returns for 2025 to date, “A Minecraft Movie,” will be showing at The Palace Theater in downtown Spur. Saturday, Aug. 9—thanks to the sponsorship of Dickens County’s own Galaxy Digital AI data center. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m.

QUITAQUE—Caprock Canyons State Parks continues to have events through August. Summer bat tours via park van are scheduled for July 25, August 1, August 8, August 15, August 22 and August 29. Tours are limited to 13 people on each date.

A cake topped with crisp meringue is a traditional Norwegian dessert. It’s a tender, crunchy, creamy confection. The original version of the confection is a yellow sponge cake with meringue baked right onto the top of the cake layers and topped with sliced almonds.
