Spur’s girls basketball team showed up big-time Feb. 20 in a key Region I Area matchup, knocking off Meadow, 59-33, at Roosevelt. Sophomore sisters Kendal and Kaygan Walker joined forces with junior Keylee Molina on the highlight reel for the Spurettes’ second consecutive playoff win.

The Jayton Lady Jays held Crowell scoreless in the first quarter and went on to secure the coveted gold ball with a 61-17 bi-district win in the first round of the Texas 1A basketball playoffs Feb. 16. Coach Kevin Chisum’s team is sending the message that their defense is the real show-stopper.

The first step to Jayton’s boys return to the Alamodome in March has been completed. The Jaybirds coasted through District 15-A play undefeated and are now headed into a Texas two-step that Coach Ryan Bleiker hopes will become a three-peat dance.

Coach Craig Hamilton’s team finished fourth in District 8-A behind Valley, Motley County and Paducah. Spur defeated Guthrie twice during the district slate to earn the final playoff spot. Spur dropped a game to Motley County Feb. 13.
