The Spur Bulldogs played the Petersburg Buffaloes last Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, on their home field. Spur defended their undefeated season, bringing their record to 8-0. Spur ended the game with the mercy rule early in the fourth quarter, 66-18.
In Jayton last week, substantial progress in raising a long-awaited roof for a planned beautification project on the square. Rosillo Brothers Roofing out of Snyder finished welding the metal posts and roof frame; roof decking and painting await before landscaping is undertaken.The project has been supported by the Kent County Lions Club. | THE TEXAS SPUR

Jayton Food Pantry holding fund drive for Christmas boxes

Kent County’s Bruce Long Food Pantry is having a fund drive for Christmas Boxes, according to local correspondent Bert Stanaland. The Pantry serves 32 families in Kent County. It does not receive any government funding, instead operating on donations from individuals.

Jaybirds stay sharp to down Bobcats

It wasn’t perfect for Jayton in Rule on Friday night…the Birds did have one extra point blocked and Rule did earn one first down. Other than that, the Jaybirds looked sharp in rolling to a 54-0 defeat of the Bobcats.

GOLD STARS On October 15 two Dickens County 4-H members were awarded the highest award given in 4-H, the Gold Star. This award recognizes those young people who excel in leadership, community service and project work. They also must complete a record book. Each county is limited to only two recipients. This year the awards go to Patton Springs High School students Diezel Ramirez (left), a senior, and Jet Ramirez, a junior. | 4-H PHOTOS

Scramble results October 15. Due to the fact that it is getting dark so quickly in the evenings, last week’s scramble was all holes being played as a Par 3. Holes that are not typically a par 3 were played from 150 yards out. We had 20 people show up to participate and five teams were formed.
