Spur Senior Citizens

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., will be serving a noon meal Monday through Friday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472. A donation is always appreciated. The cost for seniors over 60 is $4; everyone else is always welcome, for $8.

Spur pool work back on track; concrete to be poured Aug. 4

CONCRETE PROGRESS Although renovation of Spur’s Swenson Park swimming pool stalled midsummer due to fluctuations in the price of ready-mix concrete, on July 19 Mayor Louise Jones told the Spur city council that concrete was scheduled to be poured August 4.

Spur native Aaron Latham, writer of the magazine story that inspired ‘Urban Cowboy,’ dies at 78

LOS ANGELES — Aaron Latham, a screenwriter, journalist and author whose Esquire magazine story inspired the 1980 smash “Urban Cowboy,” died July 23 in Pennsylvania of complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was 78.

Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Rodeo tickets available from scholarship winners

It’ll soon be rodeo time again in Motley and Dickens Counties. The event is slated for August 25–27, 2022 at Roaring Springs.
