SNYDER—After it publishes its March 10 edition next weekend, the Snyder Daily News will adopt a new name and switch from a six-day-aweek publication to a twiceweekly newspaper, coming out on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“What facility can the current Swimming Pool Fund be used on” was the question posed by Spur’s mayor and city council on the evening of February 18 at a specially called Town Hall forum. Although city, citizens, and friends have accumulated $48,232 (plus an additional $2,928 held by the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce) since 2018 to repair or replace the 85-year-old recreation complex, estimates for any plan have far exceeded that figure, and a bond election failed in fall 2019.
According to The Texas Tribune early voting tracker of the 10 largest counties in the state—Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar, Travis, Collin, Hidalgo, Denton, El Paso and Fort Bend— every one of these except El Paso has set a record for early voting in the first five days of 2020. El Paso was a few hundred votes behind 2018’s record.
