Puppy chow for kids is a snack mix I grew up with. It was the kind you make from scratch, before the cereal companies began packaging it pre-made. I loved making it for my own kids when they were little.
A vegetable crop that thrives when temperatures soar is okra. Gardeners who are familiar with the ever-present West Texas agronomic crop, cotton, will recognize the similarity between cotton and okra blossoms. Okra and cotton are both members of the Malvaceae (mallow) family. The other well-known ornamental flowering plant that is also in the Malvaceae family is the hibiscus. Unlike cotton and hibiscus, okra has the added benefit of producing edible pods.

The highly popular Spur Farmers’ Market is back this Saturday, August 1, 2020, returning to Rickels Park on Burlington Avenue in downtown Spur. It moved to Swenson Park in July to complement the Big Dog BBQ Cook-off.
The Dixie Dog, a fixture on Spur’s Hill Street for nearly 70 years, opened with new ownership and management this week, and has already implemented some changes in their menu, hours and ambience.
