This dish brings me back to the hot days of summer when my kids were little. My husband was overseas with the military, so I probably didn’t cook as many large meals. And with the heat that summer, I’d tell the kids we’d be having what I called “cold plates” for dinner.

Summer has arrived in Spur! The swimming pool has reopened after being closed for 15 years, and at the library story time with Joanna is going strong on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and collaborative summer reading is in full swing!

During its regularly scheduled meeting of May 21, 2024, the Spur city council was faced with a number of personnel questions, ending up in a stalemate on action once again as change is on the horizon for its police department and city hall.

Early voting in the Dickens County Sheriff primary runoff election between candidates Jay Allen and Jerry Schmidt has been robust this week. As of 2:30 Friday afternoon, 261 early votes had been cast. In the March Primary 642 votes were cast for sheriff when it was a three-way race.
