This srpring a group of local residents attended the Jayton-Girard Independent School District board meetings to give public comment on the possibility of Jayton fielding a baseball team in UIL 1A high school athletics.

KCBD Community Coverage to return to Spur July 26

It’s been five years since Lubbock television station KCBD (Channel 11) brought its hugely popular Community Coverage summer tour to Spur— but the station has confirmed it’s selected Spur for the Tuesday night of its 2022 event, on July 26.

Spur Senior Center welcomes Pritchett as new director

Anyone who stops in casually for a weekday lunch at the Senior Citizens of South Dickens County (often simply called the Spur Senior Center) might not realize the considerable planning, maintenance, preparation, and execution that goes into this healthy, convivial mealtime.

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., will be serving a noon meal Monday through Friday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472.

LIBRARY NOTES

Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in June the library will be hosting programming for the children of the community through the Collaborative Summer Reading Program.

Grow your own health food store by planting vegetables in the garden. Vegetables freshly harvested from the garden very likely have more nutrients than store bought—for the simple reason that they are fresh.

We all scream for ‘nice cream’

What an exciting time this is, as we head into summer, vacations, camping, and gardening. I’m thinking about farmers’ markets, fresh ingredients, and developing healthy, beautiful recipes from the bounty. Soon, cherries will be swinging on my trees, and the tomatoes ripening in the garden.
