Jayton escapes ‘no holds barred’ Klondike 41–40

The gym at Lubbock Christian University on Friday night was the scene of some breakneck basketball as the Jayton Jaybirds survived a very aggressive Klondike Cougars squad en route to the regional quarterfinals championship, 41 to 40.

Spur wins area title, falls in regional quarterfinal

On Friday night when the boys’ basketball regional quarterfinals were held, three of District 5-1A’s teams were still in the running: Spur, Jayton and Paducah.

Jayton high schoolers under the direction of teachers Hillary Bleiker and Kristi Tidmore are busy preparing Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of murder, money and mutiny, “Treasure Island,” for this year’s One Act Play competition. District UIL competition is scheduled for March 9 in Spur.

Spur ISD has been rehearsing for district One Act Play competition, slated for Tuesday, March 9 in Spur. “Oz,” a dramatization that adapts elements of L. Frank Baum’s timeless “Wizard of Oz” stories.

Jayton 29, Whiteface 44 When they weren’t fighting sub-freezing temperatures, losses of electricity and on-again–off-again water service in their hometowns, the girls’ varsity 5-1A basketball teams faced other formidable foes and these opponents were similarly pugnacious in the playoffs.

BI-DISTRICT CHAMPS The Jayton Lady Jays varsity girls basketball team defeated the O’Donnell Lady Screamin’ Eagles 42 to 37 to win the bi-district crown. Depending on weather the Lady Jays were slated to play Whiteface Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. at Lubbock Christian High School.
