Jayton 42, O’Donnell 37 Bi-district champion The Lady Jays of Jayton got the ball rolling in the playoffs with a never-give-up tenacity, snatching victory from the claws of defeat to the dismay of the Lady Screamin’ Eagles of O’Donnell Thursday, Feb. 11 in Slaton, 42–37.

UIL to extend playoff round certification dates due to weather

The UIL has extended basketball playoff round certification deadlines due to the winter weather that began impacting the Lone Star State earlier this week.

Palace Theater gets grant to repair ceiling

The Dickens County Historical Commission has been approved for a $5,000 grant for the Palace Theater from the Community Foundation of West Texas. According to DCHC chair Harry Bob Martin the grant will be used to install a new ceiling for the theater.

Mozart wind project donates $10K to Kent County Senior Center

German-headquartered global renewable energy group BayWa r.e., parent company of the Mozart wind energy project based partly in Kent, Fisher and Stonewall Counties, last month made a donation of $10,000 to Kent County support projects of the county’s Senior Citizens Center.

Final ticket still up for grabs in Boys 5-1A basketball

There’s a whole week of boys’ basketball left—maybe longer—before the playoffs begin for 5-1A. The 8–0 Paducah Dragons and the 7–1 Jayton Jaybirds battled it out Tuesday night to see who won district and who’s runner-up, but the picture is still pretty murky for number three, the final playoff team.

Croft to compete in State Congress

Alana Croft will be competing in the State Congressional Debate Meet in La Vernia, Texas, on February 14 and 15. Croft placed third at the regional competition that was held in November.
